PANZANO in CHIANTI
Dating back to Etruscan times, Panzano is located on the Via Chiantigiana, the famous road thru the Chianti region, known for the excellent cultivation of grapes.
Panzano is a very cosmopolitan village where local residents and tourists can blend together. Many artist have made of Panzano their home and have found the inspiration for their art work which can be seen in the artisan market. The small square is the perfect place for an ice cream in the hot summer days or a glass of local wine in the summer nights at the Enoteca. Every Sunday morning there is the weekly food market and the first Sunday of each month the Artisan market. The third weekend of September there is the yearly wine festival “Vino al Vino”.

 

Carlo Fagiani is the local leather artisan, where you can buy shoes and leather products made to order. Last but definitely not least, the famous butcher “Dario Cecchini” a.k.a. “The Meat God” who will recite Dante or sing an opera aria while serving you. He is famous all over the world for his specialties which can be tried in his store. Dario has recently opened two restaurants in the front and the back of his store: Solo Ciccia and the Officina della Bistecca. Dario is also very involved socially and he organizes events such as “Butchers for Children” where all the proceeds are donated to the Children Hospital Meyer of Florence. At last, every year on the 14th of August, Dario organizes an outside dinner in the streets of Panzano, with other local merchants, where tourists and local people blend together

This is the only municipality completely in the area of Classic Chianti. It has Roman origins. The town centre is characterised by an asymmetric square surrounded by arcades and closed by the Church of Propositura and the Civic Building. In its environs there are Montefioralle, Monte San Michele, Lucole and Panzano

One the most famous town in the world, Unesco’s World Heritage. It is the capital of Tuscany, with around half a million of inhabitant and stands along the Arno River in a natural basin surrounded by stunning hills. It is the land of the Renaissance, of Italian culture and art, and not only… The Uffizi, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, the cathedral with Giotto’s Campanile, Piazzale Michelangelo, and many other gems, attract millions of visitors from all over the world every year.

Siena Siena
It is one of the most lovingly preserved towns in Italy. The pride is the feature has ever characterised it. Wealthy, cultivated and pugnacious town, famous for Piazza del Campo and its Palio. The austere Torre del Mangia, symbol of the independence of Siena, overlooks the square. The whole town is full of aristocratic palaces. Siena is also the town of Saint Catherine, the patron saint of Italy, and its devotion to the Saint is expressed in the gothic Cathedral and the churches of S. Domenico, S. Francesco, S. Maria del Carmine and S. Maria degli Angeli, gothic and renaissance jewels.
San Casciano (FI) San Casciano
It is the northern gate of Chianti. Born thanks to near and powerful Florence, in the course of time it was raided by many armies. Beautiful are the Keep, the Church of Santa Maria al Prato, the Museum of Holy Art and the Collegiata. In the surroundings Mercatale Val di Pesa, Bargino, Cerbaia and other stunning villages and castles surrounded by rows of Chianti Classico.
San Gimignano
In the province of Siena this village is famous for its unmistakable skyline with its unchanged medieval aspect. Its towers, known all over the world, and the old town centre are inscribed on the Unesco’s world heritage list. Picturesque narrow streets flanked with palaces, the Romanesque Collegiata, Piazza Duomo, the Church of Sant’Agostino, Piazza della Cisterna next ot Piazza Duomo are some of the jewels of this famous village.

The Etruscan and Roman finds prove its ancient origins. Florence and Siena competed for it and this explains the remains of defensive works in the towers, in the keep and in the charming Via delle Volte under the town walls. It was part of the “Chianti League”; today it is in the Province of Siena and has also beautiful environs worth seeing: Monternano, Grignano, Pietrafitta, the parish church of Sant’Agnese, just to mention few of them.

Arezzo Arezzo
Arezzo is amid Casentino, Valdarno, Valdichiana and Valtiberina. Its origins are Etruscan; now it is famous for its goldsmith production and artistic heritage: it is enough to mention one name, Piero della Francesca. Thick woods with places symbolic of Christianity, like La Verna and Camaldoli. The Arno originates here, on Mount Falterona, in the Park of Casentino Woods. Castles pop up here and there: Poppi, Stia, Romena and Pratovecchio. Sansepolcro, Monterchi, Anghiari and Cortona are worth a visit. At the border with Umbria, Marche and Emilia, it is also crossed by the Tevere in the Valtiberina region.

First Etruscan and then Roman town, in the Middle Age Pisa was a Marine Republic. It is famous all over the world for its artistic heritage, and in particular for the “Leaning Tower”. Its short sandy coast includes the Regional Park of Migliarino, San Rossore. Unique are in the southern area the geothermal phenomena of Larderello. Land of green hills, there are also several spas in San Giuliano, Uliveto and Casciana.
Volterra
Build on a hill ridge between the valleys of the Era and Cecina, enclosed by a double barrage of walls, the Etruscan Volterra, in province of Pisa, is one of the most important centres of Tuscany. Thirty centuries of history and the alabaster manufacturing are its pride. It’s a small town rich in art, not contaminated by the rhythm of present-day life yet, where it seems to live in the old days, amid narrow streets of a medieval village and crafts with roots in the Etruscan past

In the middle of the Tuscan coast there is Livorno, town the Medici strongly developed, with cosmopolitan traditions. A clear sea laps the coast, here sandy, there rocky, where there are Castiglioncello, Cecina and Rosignano. Just behind the foreland there are also protected oases, parks and Etruscan settlements. This land of artists gave birth to Mascagni, Modigliani, etc… but it is also the land of wines known all over the world: one for all, Sassicaia.

Grosseto Grosseto / Maremma
Beaches, pinewoods, woods, inlets, unpolluted islands, villages and castles. Colline Metallifere, Mount Amiata, Etruscan necropolises, villages, castles and famous wines, such as Morellino di Scansano. Sometimes wild and rough, this land keeps intact its traditions. It is famous for its Silver Coast, closed to the south by Talamone and including the Argentario and the islands of Giannutri and Giglio; however the Maremma has much more to offer.

Lucca Lucca / Garfagnana
It is one the most renowned towns of Italy which for ages benefited from autonomy. It is represented by its walls; but also the Cathedral and Piazza dell’Anfiteatro are masterpieces. Town of music, Lucca gave birth to Luigi Boccherini and Giacomo Puccini. Garfagnana is the most mountainous region of this area; on the plain area there are the famous residences of Lucca, and, to top it all, there is one of the most famous Italian coasts, Versilia.
